Abstract

The Young Innovators Challenge Programme is a programme in Malaysia to increase students' generic and soft skills, problem solving, creativity and innovation through workshops, boot camp and competitions. The programme consists of three phases that capable of producing a generation of more interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The purpose of this study is to identify the extent to which the STEM competition has influenced mentors to consider career in science and technology. This study used questionnaire called YISTEM A. YISTEM A consists of 30 items and 3 constructs were distributed to respondents by using purposive sampling, which assess mentor competency, career and interest. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed by using Rasch Model which revealed that participation in STEM competition influenced students' interest in STEM career.
