Abstract
Study on the usage of mobile learning application, which is apps, is still in the early stages, especially among students with special needs. A key question is whether students are prepared to accept the use of mobile technology as a learning aid. This study aims to identify the impact of mobile apps usage in improving the Malay Language literacy skills of students with learning disabilities. Next, the environment factors influencing apps usage were also explored in this study. A total of 50 respondents among special needs students from one school in city area of Kota Tinggi, Johor were participated in this study. Pre and post-test and a questionnaire (α = 0.78) based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) have been used as quantitative instruments. Quantitative data were analysed using SPSS version 18.0 to obtain mean and standard deviation, and t-test and correlation analysis. The results of the study show the students’ achievement has improved and there is a moderate significant correlation among Behavioural Intention with UTAUT elements. The usage of mobile apps called “Belajar Membaca” has proved student’s achievement and Malay Language literacy skills as well as positive changes to their behavior.
