Abstract
Cinnamon nanoparticles (CNPs) containing rich active agents of cinnamaldehyde and polyphenols are prospective for nanobiomedicine. They are preferred over metallic nanoparticles due to excellent bioactivity and non-toxicity. This paper reports the structural and emission properties of CNPs grown in citric acid medium (under varying laser energy) using pulse laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) technique. TEM analysis revealed the nucleation of crystalline truncated tetrahedral CNPs with average diameter ≈12.85 nm. EDX spectra detected the exact elemental constituents in protein capped CNPs. Raman spectra displayed the symmetric bonding vibration of CNPs in the presence of secondary metabolites enclosing terpenoids, flavonoids, phenols and tannins. Photoluminescence emission spectra disclosed two prominent peaks centered at 420 nm and 480 nm assigned to the occurrence of phenolic acids in CNPs.
