The factors concerning procurement selection for building information modeling (bim) based project

Abstract

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a new concept of project delivery which utilizes the advantages of BIM. A Traditional Procurement System has segregation in the process and might lead to certain limitations from the aspect of integration and collaboration. An early Contractor involvement would encourage collaboration between the Project Teams. The research objective is to identify the factors affecting the procurement selection in the BIM-based project. The research scoped down for BIM players in BIM development. Nonetheless, research method used is a semistructure interview. A total of 8 respondents were interviewed. The findings showed that the factors taken into consideration in procurement selection include information factor, risks allocation, cost and time factors, coordination and collaboration, security of the project, progressive final account, and payment, reduction of disputes, enhancement of QS profession, skills of the contractors and competency. Nonetheless, information prevails as the highest concern in selecting procurement for BIM project. In addition, there is a need to increase the collaboration amongst the pertinent parties because ECI is encouraged by most of the respondents. IPD is informally practiced by some multiple disciplines developers but requires the trust to be established within the supply chain in a single discipline business.
