Abstract

This paper aims to utilize Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Elevated stations roof area in m2 as solar electricity generation and parallelly to contribute energy by compensates energy demand challenges encountered by energy service providers with year to year demand increases. The geography of Malaysia, which is part of mainland of Southeast Asia located near to Equator with an annual average of solar irradiance 4.9 kWh/m2/day, ambient temperature 25.53 °C, wind speed 2.24 m/s and air mass 1.5 which are favorable parameters for the optimal solar power generation. Total of 24 elevated stations that were built for Klang Valley MRT line 1. Those station roofs are just built as shelters for stations which can be utilized by installing solar panels to compensate energy demand to the nation and indirectly revenBe collection to the stakeholders. The key challenges in this research were identification of the best optimal solar panels and the inverters within lower cost with optimal outputs and ROI (Return on Investment).
