Abstract

Hospitals and medical facilities require more protection. The nature of its business poses unique security challenges that can leave the vulnerable to theft and internal misuse. Despite the risk, hospital security must able to attain the objective of friendly and open design that make patients, relatives and visitors feel comfortable. However, the hospital and healthcare institutions have tendency to avoid potentially invasive security measure and therefore they generally slow to adopt new technologies. The successful implementation healthcare security perimeter relies on the balanced approach of state-of-the-art security measures and the fast and proper response of medical situation of patients. Studies on security perimeter loopholes have focused on physical security and less on technological aspects. Therefore, there is a need to identify the relevant factors in the scope of technology. This paper provides a systematic review of the literature, with the aim to identify the technological factors of security perimeter for the institutions. Initially, 1972 papers were retrieved by manual search from five databases, two levels of inclusion and exclusion processes. The total of 464 papers were determined during first level of inclusion/exclusion criteria. Further, 63 papers were identified in the secondary search which involved reviewing the references in the selected primary studies. The total number of primary selected studies was 527 studies. Finally, after the second level inclusion/exclusion criteria, 17 studies were included. The findings have revealed three major group categories of technological factors in hospital security perimeter: hardware, system and model.
