Abstract

Current study aimed to explore the effect of maternal depression towards women's well-being during pre and post-natal stage. Total 120 pre and post-natal women participated from 4 Maternal Health Clinics of 4 districts of Johor, Malaysia. Purposive sampling were used to evaluate samples from each region such as [North region = Muar: pre-natal (n=15) and post-natal (n=15), West region = Kluang: pre-natal (n=15) and post-natal (n=15), East region= Kota Tinggi: pre-natal (n=15) and post-natal (n=15) and south region= Johor Bharu: pre-natal (n=15) and post-natal (n=15)]. 3 sets of self-administrative questionnaires; Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Short Form 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36) and The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) were used for data collection. SPSS version 22 and SmartPLS 3 used for data analysis. Results also indicated significant negative effect among all the variables. For example, resilience has a negative significant effect on depression like resilience has a negative significant effect on depression, emotional well-being, physical functioning, role limitations due to physical health, role limitations due to emotional problems, energy, social functioning), and general health. Present study might be beneficial to Ministry of Health Malaysia to come out with counselling treatment programs, preventions and awareness programs. Early detection of depression is crucial to maintain women's well-being during pre-natal and post-natal stage.
