Abstract

Healing environment in Public Health Clinic is one of the challenges for the Ministry of Health to meet the needs of staff and patients and make national health systems more responsive to the people. Elements of the physical environments in healthcare facilities such as legibility of place; staff and; nature and outdoors should be considered to ensure that health facilities meet the quality of healing environment. However, if the quality of healing environment not be noted in Public Health Clinic, then it can not help patient to cope with the pressure exerted during the healing period. As a result, healing environment for health facilities cannot function as the physical environment and organizational culture that supports patients and their family to confront the pressure exerted. Previous studies had found that healing environment may help patient during healing period and staff performed better in their work. However, there is no study regarding healing environment in Malaysia Public Health Clinic. Thus, this study wish to identify user perception toward healing environment in Public Health Clinic. The objective of this study intended to identified the physical factors that encourage healing environment in healthcare facilities and identify the perspectives of users on the quality of healing environment in Public Health Clinics by using 'A Staff and Patient Environment Calibration Toolkit' (ASPECT). A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and data obtained from respondents of 100 staff and 200 patients using services in 14 Government Health Clinics in district of Johor Bahru. The descriptive analysis of frequency, mean and standard deviation were used to describe the elements that drive the quality of healing environment. Through this analysis, legibility of place element where the main focus of the respondents and is considered a key element in the healing environment in addition to staff; nature and outdoors; privacy, company and dignity; facilities; interior appearances; comfort and control and; views. The findings reveal that, to improve quality of healing environment in Public Health Clinic show that legibility of place is a major element of concern of the user.
