Abstract

Nowadays, almost all countries in the world, including Indonesia, have put serious attention on sport management. The ministry of sport and youth of Indonesia made specific guidelines to improve initiatives for effective sport management at the province level. However, the total number of medals acquired in sport competition by the contingent of Indonesia National Sports Committee from South Sulawesi Province showed unsatisfactory results. This situation reflects poor sport achievement although the National Sports Committee of Indonesia has applied the approach of sustainable competitive advantage. Hence, this study aims to investigate the relationship between sustainable competitive advantage and organizational resources in sport management of Indonesia National Sport Committee. This study employed a mixed-method research design. A total of 600 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling to answer the questionnaire while 15 sport managers were interviewed. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS while the qualitative data were analyzed using Nvivo10. The findings showed that the factors of sustainable competitive advantage, organization resources and sport management by Indonesia National Sports Committee are at moderate level. There is a strong and significant correlation between sustainable competitive advantage and organization resources with sport management by Indonesia National Sport Committee. All variables of this study are significant statistically. This study also showed that there are five factors of sustainable competitive advantage and organization resources which contribute for the effectiveness of sport management in South Sulawesi province. The result of this study can be used as guidelines to develop a model of sport management using sustainable competitive advantage and organization resources approach. The findings of this study can be used as guidelines by many sport related parties to support the sport management in practicing sustainable competitive advantage and organizational resources in Indonesia.
