Abstract

Some of the skills that are important in realizing the secondary school extracurricular areas of this country are managing skills. This research concerned the measurement of skills of extracurricular management and the responsibilities of the teacher advisor in the seconday school in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education. The study specifically looks at the four key issues in managing extracurricular activities, namely the measurement of the level of performance skills to planning, implementing, evaluating and improving work efficiency. The sample consists of 412 secondary school extracurricular advisors in Kuala Lumpur. Simple random sampling selection was made considering the big number of teachers and pupils in secondary schools. This study adopted a quantitative method. Data were collected using a questionnaire as the main instrument. The Ministry of Education (MOE) policy documents on extracurricular activities are used as foundation for the questionnaire instruments. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 statistical and AMOS version 18.0 to conduct the process analysis of Stuctural Equation Modeling (SEM). Validity and reliability of the instrument was found to be at a high level (0.934). The results showed that the level of management skills of teacher advisor is Medium High (mean 5.62-5.90) except the task skill level is at Moderate (mean 5.46). It was evident that each skill improvement efforts have contributed to the effectiveness of management. In addition, the implementing skills of male teachers were more effective than female teachers. The implications of the study conclude the need for guidance and monitoring of teachers by the school administrators and the Ministry of Education in order to continue to produce skilled teachers in extracurricular management.
