Abstract

A competitive human resource development has been the focus of the current development in Indonesian. To achieve this aim, the development of education is needed to create an individual who is competent and ready to face global challenges. The objective of this study is to investigate a framework for increase competency during industrial training and its relevance with the requirements of the job in industry. The study employed a combination of quantitative and qualitative research design. The quantitative method used questionnaires on 300 respondents with selected through random sampling method. The data were analyzed using SPSS software for descriptive statistic analysis and the parametric inferential statistic analysis for t-test, one way ANOVA, and factorial design with the level of significant set as 0.01. The qualitative method used observation check list was to get data from 70 students. Meanwhile, the interview protocol was used to get data on 20 respondents namely; students, teachers, supervisors, and employers with selected through purposive sampling method. The data were analyzed using by NVivo software. Overall, the results showed that there was an increase in students’ competence after the industrial training. The results of inferential statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences between the levels of cognitive, skills, and attitudes before and after the industrial training. Based on the time period of industrial training, it showed that six month is better than four or three months. In other words, the industrial training provides a positive impact on improving the quality of students’ competency. The Interview analysis revealed that there were 21 important dimensions in the implementation of industrial training. This research found a framework for the development of Vocational High School students’ competency which is relevant to the industrial needs proposed.
