Abstract
Error correction codes are used widely in all wireless communication systems to reduce data corruption. The most widely used decoding algorithm is the Viterbi decoder which is used with different parameters for different standards requirements. This paper analyses the different Viterbi decoders and implements a reconfigurable adaptive Viterbi decoder for GPRS, EDGE and Wimax technologies. The high performance generic soft input hard output Viterbi decoder is prototyped on a FPGA.
