Abstract

Matrix converter is a direct ac-ac power conversion system with bi-directional power flow capability using fully controlled semiconductor switches arranged in a form of matrix array. This chapter elaborates the multi-phase matrix converters, encompassing the existing and the new and emerging topologies and control. Different control algorithms are discussed for efficient operation of the multi-phase matrix converter. The multi-phase operation is conducted both in the output as well as in the input side of the matrix converter respectively. The theoretical background along with analytical detail and simulation models are presented followed by the experimental results.
