Abstract
The mobile communications have grown rapidly in past few decades and it is inevitable that the cellular communications is moving towards the next generation of wireless communications where the users will be provided connectivity through heterogeneous networks. The new generation of mobile networks is expected to evolve around 2020, which is now commonly known as 5G. Currently, the researchers are exploring how the users will be provided mobility through the combination of micro and macro cells. Vertical handovers are foreseen as a solution to seamless mobility for the end users. This paper provides insights about the state of art vertical handover techniques and explores the issues that are required to resolve for achieving vertical handovers.
