Abstract

The objectives of this research are to identify students’ critical thinking abilities in answering an assessment test which is based on Ennis Critical Thinking Abilities and to investigate the effects of video learning on critical thinking abilities. The respondents were selected based on purposive sampling and consisted of 23 students from mechanical engineering education students who possess minimum knowledge in networking technology. This research was conducted using pre-post research design. A set of pre-test was given at the beginning of the class before any treatment was done. After the conventional teaching process, respondents were exposed to BLOSSOMS video on the topic of Network Topology. Then the experimental data were obtained through a set of assessment question. The data were analyzed based on the existence of critical thinking elements when the students answered the structured questions. The result showed the existence of 10 out of 12 critical thinking abilities used by the respondents when they answered the assessment test.
