Abstract
Oral communication apprehension (OCA) is a key factor in the behaviours at work during the process of communication. Speech anxiety in particular can lead to a number of communication issues that must be adequately addressed in order to enable communication to proceed without impediment. This paper aims to provide a brief overview of the origins and theories of OCA, incorporating the concepts, nature, causes, and effects of OCA, whereby previous research is drawn upon to support the conclusions. Furthermore, recent research on OCA and a variety of classroom techniques which can alleviate OCA will also be presented.
