Abstract

Apart from sporting purposes, sport complexes are a lso increasingly being used for concerts and other events with large spectator atte ndance. As such, the safety of the sport complex is very important to ensure all spectators and occupan ts in and inside and nearby the stadium are safe. One of the initial work to ensure safety is to cond uct an aerodynamic characteristic study of the forc es and moments of the sport complex using a wind tunne l to provide data for the structural design engineers and architects. Hence, the objective of t his project was to perform a wind tunnel testing on UTM sport complex mode to obtain its aerodynamics c haracteristics. The tests were conducted in the UTM Low Speed Wind Tunnel by using semi-span balanc e to obtain the forces and moments. The maximum coefficient drag of force is 0.115 occurs a t 20 ⁰ yaw angle with the wind speed 5.56m/s, whereas the maximum coefficient of axial force is 0 .025 occurs at 0 ⁰ yaw angle with the wind speed 8.33m/s. The maximum moment coefficient is 0.01 at -30 ⁰ for axial (rolling). Thus, with these values the UTM sport complex can be designed safely.
