This paper examines the relationship between energy demand and spatial structure in the context of urban planning. It also aims to address potential for urban planners to facilitate and guide new development as well as improve existing built environment into spatial structure which are more energy efficient. It also evaluates the National Physical Plan and National Urbanization Policy from the perspective of energy conservation considerations. Findings on variables of urban structure and energy demand based on literature review are also being discussed.
