Abstract
The crystallization behaviour of Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) induced by two kinds of nucleating agents which are Boron Nitride (BN) and Halloysite nanotubes (HNT) was investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). PHB composites with 2, 4, 6, 8 wt% of BN and HNT were prepared by melt mixing. Presence of 8wt% BN in PHB significantly enhanced the melting temperature (Tm) and also accelerates the crystallization temperature (Tc) of PHB. Meanwhile, addition of more than 2wt% of HNT reduced the Tc thus crystallization of PHB/HNT composites. Even, the crystallization of composites with 8wt% HNT is slower than 8wt% BN but still faster than pure PHB. The degree of crystallinity (Xc) also was calculated from the DSC results.
