Abstract
Essential oils of the bark, heartwood and leaf of Neolitsea zeylanica (Lauraceae) were obtained using hydrodistillation and analyzed by capillary gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). A total of twenty seven compounds were detected in the various oils, accounting for 73.84% to 85.23% of the oils. The main constituents in the bark and heartwood oils were τ-cadinol (13.80-22.59%), τ-muurolol (11.02-15.27%) and δ-cadinene (9.63-10.77%). In contrast, β-caryophyllene (34.60%) and trans-γ-bisabolene (12.90%) were found to be the principle components in the leaf oil.
