Abstract

"Ionic Bond" is the title of the educational website development based on the Needham's Five Phases Constructivism Model. The title of ionic bond is one of the topics of the chemistry subject in the secondary school. The purpose of this website development is to overcome alternative framework for the ionic bond concept, especially among pure science stream students. The design model applied for the website development was the ADDIE model. Two experts were selected as the evaluators in order to determine, namely: the suitability of the materials applied to deliver chemistry concepts and the appropriateness of multimedia elements used in the process of website development. The preliminary study regarding suitability of the website was carried out among 52 respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics which involved the mean and percentage respectively. The study determined that the website is suitable for the creation of an alternative framework for the ionic bond concept. This is due to the effective teaching strategy, as well as the user-friendly, interactive and attractive display. It is hoped that this website can become one of the virtual teaching aids, in addition to being accessible around the world. This would enable the teaching and learning process to be easier and more effective.
