Abstract

The Pd(II) and Pt(IV) ions biosorption onto egg shell membrane (ESM) were investigated as an alternative method for palladium and platinum removal from aqueous solution. According to Langmuir model, biosorption isotherm of the Pd(II) and Pt(IV) ions were 201 mg Pd(II)/g dry weight and 87 mg Pt(IV)/g, respectively. The ability of ESM to adsorb Pd(II) and Pt(IV) ions from electroplating wastes was also investigated. The result showed that Pd(II) ion was selectively adsorbed onto ESM. This environmentally friendly removal system for precious metal ions is very important technology compared to other prior methods
