Abstract
This study reports the preparation and performance measurements of Bi₁-ᵪLaᵪFeO₃ nanoparticles doped liquid crystal (LC) physical gel ct 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) nematic liquid crystal and cholesteryl stearate gelator. Resulting LC physical gel has been used to prepare light scattering optical cell and is found to possess improved electro-optical properties such as contrast ratio, response time and threshold voltage. These physical properties are concentration dependent. Entire fibrous network is observed under optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Molecular director orientation of liquid crystal in gel matrices are analyzed using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Gelling mechanism is studied using infrared (1R) spectroscopy.
