Abstract

The use of waste engine oil as a recycling agent for rejuvenating the aged binder could improve the recyclability of reclaimed asphalt pavements (RAP). This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of adding different percentages and types of waste engine oil on physical and rheological properties of asphalt binder containing aged binder. The types of waste engine oil used for the investigation were obtained from motorcycle, heavy vehicle (lorry) and heavy machineries (tractor) with various percentages added to the asphalt binder i.e., 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The asphalt binder samples were then tested for Penetration, Softening Point and Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). From the results, it was discovered that the use of WEO obtained from motorcycle and lorry up to 15% , and heavy machineries up to 10% in the asphalt binder containing aged binder are able to perform as virgin asphalt binder.
