Abstract

Bukit Nanas is located in the center of Kuala Lumpur. A massive slope failure has occurred at Bukit Nanas that caused tremendous effects, where nine vehicles were buried and causing a massive traffic jam due to main road closure. A slope remedial work needs to be undertaken to rehabilitate the slope, since this location is critical as it connects many places in Kuala Lumpur. Slope stability analysis was carried out using a well-established computer program " SLOPE/W " developed by GEOSLOPE. The analysis method adopted is Morgenstern-Price's Method. Two types of remedial work have been proposed, which are, Option 1: reinforced concrete wall and soil nail and Option 2: crib wall and soil nail. The effectiveness of these remedial works was assessed in terms of factor of safety (FOS). It was found that Option 1 met the Malaysia Public Works Department guidelines for slope. However, there is another aspect that needs to be considered since Bukit Nanas is a preserved area by the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia.
