Abstract

This study presents a numerical simulation study on the erosion effect of API 5L X42 pipeline due to high pressure water jet impact via Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD). The study attempts to simulate the physics and compare the erosion pattern, simulating actual erosion failure pattern of the pipe. Water was diffused in a mixture of water and sand. The sand was entrained into the jet stream and produce erosive impaction of water jet onto the pipeline. The numerical results were found reasonably identical with the experimental findings.
