Abstract
Passengers commuting ina public transport buseswere exposed to indoor air contaminant such as particulatematter.Particulate mattercan be found inenclosed spaces andcouldaffect thepassenger healthin long and short termsduration. This paper presentstheconcentration levelsof PM1,PM2.5 and PM10againsttime and length ofthepassengercompartment.Field measurements wereconductedin auniversity’sshuttle busto validate the CFD model. The fieldmeasurement of concentration levels of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10were conducted at the front of the passenger compartment at alevel of 1.1 m from floor.CFD software was used to develop asimplified3D model of a quarter sectionof apassengercompartment.Turbulent flow analysis was carried out using LESmodel for the air flow and DP model for the particles. It wasfound thattheconcentrationlevelsof PM1, PM2.5 and PM10werehighat 200 sec, 600sec, 800 sec and1000 sec. This isdue to outside particlesenter the door during boarding andunboardingthepassengers.
