Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between assertive behavior and stress among working single mothers who are registered under Johor's Single Mother Organization C.A.R.E. This study involves a total of 297 working single mothers and they was chosen randomly as the respondents for this research This is a quantitative study and questionnaire was used as an instrument. Rathus Assertive Questionnaire (1973) was used to measure assertive behavior, while Robbins' Stress Questionnaire (2001) was used to measure stress. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) Version 19.0. The descriptive statistics method are used to identify the level of assertiveness and stress while the inferential statistics are used to identify the relations between dimensions of assertiveness and Stress, and to identify the relations between assertiveness and dimensions of stress. Findings indicated that the level of assertive behavior among working single mother in Johor’s State is moderate. Meanwhile, the level of stress among working single mother in Johor’s State is high. Pearson correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship at low levels of assertive behavior with stress. Meanwhile, the Standard Multiple Regression Analysis showed that the dimension of assertive behavior, the Ability to Respect (KH) is the most dominant in influencing stress among working single mother.
