Abstract

The construction industry is one of the most dynamic industries that underpin the economy of any nation. More specifically, social infrastructure projects (SIPs) are vital to improve the economic productivity. However, the concept of SIPs is poorly defined. Moreover, addressing the concept of SIPs in the Malaysian construction industry seems to be missing from the research agenda. This paper aims to bridge the research gap. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the general understanding level of the Malaysian construction stakeholders about SIPs concept. To achieve this, first, SIPs concepts were rated based on a level of agreement. Second, Principal component analysis (PCA) has been employed to propose a framework of SIPs concept. The findings revealed that the construction stakeholders appeared to have a good understanding of SIPs. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge in the sense that it promotes the idea of SIPs, thereby enhances the sustainable development of the social infrastructure projects in Malaysia.
