In industrial survey applications, the methods for close range deformation monitoring of objects are usually based on the measurement and analysis of discrete surveyed points using geodetic techniques (such as photogrammetry and total station). Unfortunately, the analysis of points becomes difficult as the number of points increases. The laser scanning technology provides many 3D point cloud data for surface reconstruction (or generation of 3D computer model) of the objects, and such data are useful for further analysis. This study focuses on the development of a procedure for generation of 3D models and deformation analysis (i.e. determination of surface displacement) using VIVID910 (laser scanner system), V-STARS (close range digital photogrammetry system) and RAPIDFORM (3D modeling software). The generated 3D computer models were compared using RAPIDFORM, and the differences were shown as surface displacement. The results obtained from two epochs of data show the suitability of the procedure for practical applications.
