Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the rainfall distribution and patterns at Inanam, Sabah. This study would like to model hourly rainfall series at Inanam Sabah using Neymann-Scott Rectangular Pulse (NSRP) Fourier model. The rainfall data is divided to two periods first is calibration period and validation period. The statistical characteristics of observed data are defined. Method of moments is used to find the five parameters and MATLAB programming is used to run the NSRP (Fourier) model. Overall, the statistical characteristics of simulated series are compared sufficiently well with the statistics of observed data. The performances of the models are further analyzed with validation period. The results showed that the validation period model is able to generate hourly rainfall series and adequately resemble observed data
