Abstract

This study is aimed to identify the level of knowledge and attitudes towards the concept of Low Carbon Society (MRK), which is applied in science curriculum for secondary school based on the level of Bloom's Taxonomy and the level of Krathwoll’s Taxonomy. This study used mixed design whereas quantitative and qualitative approach conducted. The research instrument consists of a set knowledge test of Low Carbon Society and a set of attitudes questionnaire for MRK concept were used for data collection purposes. A total of 181 Form 4 and Form 5 students from three secondary schools in the district of Johor Bahru were selected as respondents. Data was collected through knowledge and attitude questionnaires by using quantitative analysis involving the use of descriptive statistics in the form of mean, percentage and frequency. Textbooks were also analyzed in this study to identify the application of MRK element in science textbooks for secondary school based on Bloom's Taxonomy level (cognitive) and Krathwoll’s Taxonomy (affective) by using document content analysis technique. Findings indicated that students knowledge of the MRK concept for level of knowledge, understanding and application are at very high, low and modest respectively, while the other three high-levels Bloom Taxonomy (analysis, synthesis and evaluation) are at low levels. Furthermore, the student’s attitude towards the MRK concept were at a moderate level. The study also showed that the application of the elements of the existing MRK are applied in science textbooks (Form 4 and Form 5) which at the cognitive level of Bloom's Taxonomy and affective level of Krathwoll’s Taxonomy. However, the pattern levels of the taxonomy were decreased when it shifted to the highest level. Therefore, this study provides important implications, particularly in implementing the science curriculum of MRK education as an important new development in the field of education
