Jusoh, Iberahin and Alias, Amran and Abd Kader, Ab Saman (2004) Maintaining The Standard: Full Time And Part Time Programs At Mechanical Engineering Faculty, UTM. In: Conference On Engineering Education (CEE 2004), 14-15 December 2004, Kuala Lumpur.
The discussions on the standard of high school and matriculation center graduates lately, compared to the previous system, have created serious concerns among university academicians. On the other hand, the old public institution as UTM etc. is handed the responsibilities of educating mass number of students since the economy downfall in 1997. Thus, providing a good engineering education to these batches of students is certainly a challenging job. Also, the sudden increase in demand on the part time programs in the country together with the competition between/among IPTA and IPTS would certainly create doubts on the standards on the products (students). This paper describes few possible steps and measure that were taken by the faculty in ensuring the standards are maintained.
