Abstract

This paper presents an application of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) in damping power systems oscillations subject to disturbances. The effectiveness of SMES is validated by using frequency and time domain approach. Faults are simulated and applied to evaluate the capabilities of SMES. Results show that SMES successfully damped out power system oscillations.
