The purpose of this research is to observe the effectiveness of traineeship programme in carpentry skills courses from the student’s perception. There are 6 factors of effectiveness in the implementation of this programme, which is knowledge, skills, student’s placement, industry partnership, exposure of employment training and elements of skill employability according to CIPP evaluation model (Context, Input, Process, Product) by Stuflebeam (1971). This research was accomplished with the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods in the data collection process. However, the findings of quantitative are major sources and the interviewing findings are meant to support more detailed explanation. The respondents consist of 48 students who are studying in carpentry course and as well involved in the traineeship programme from 4 Vocational Secondary School of Johor Zone, 2012/2013 sessions. The data acquired had been tested through a pilot study whereby the consequence degree of reliability of Cronbach Alpha is 0.953. The quantitative data obtained was analysed using the descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the high of student’s knowledge availability is in material preparation work. Although the level of readiness skills is at the mediocre level, the students acquired more skills in terms of wood machining activities. For the aspect of student’s placement, students are placed in accurate industries with their course which is the furniture industry. The findings of these studies also showed that the industrial gave high cooperation in providing training especially in terms of safety practices. However, in terms of exposure of employment training, the students are exposed to the occupational activities which are parallel to the continuity of training in the school. Meanwhile, the elements of employability skills acquired by students are taught according to its priority skills which are working with others in groups, problem solving skills, communication skills, planning and organizing activities skills and using the technology skills. As a whole, the traineeship programme which had been conducted by Vocational Secondary School of Johore Zone is considered effective. Nevertheless, it is recommended that the acquisition of knowledge, skills and application of computer skills need to be value-added, as to ensure students are not only equipped with various skills but also meet job requirements which is parallel with industry
