Abstract

Information searching habits of Internet becomes part of our daily life especially in today’s information age. The government is taking all possible efforts to ensure the people of our country are not left behind in information technology. This research was conducted to identify the information searching habits of Internet among Secondary School Teachers in the district of Kluang, Johor. This research identify whether factors such as teaching experience, subject option, attitude and the problems faced by teachers in using Internet influence information searching habits among teachers. Total of 196 secondary school teachers, who are chosen randomly, from four various schools in Kluang used as respondents. Questionnaires which was modified from previous researchers, were used as instrument to collect data in this research. Alpha Cronbach scale were used to check the reliability of the items in the questionnaire. The results of reliability test for items habit shows 0.811, items purpose of using Internet shows 0.823 and item problems faced by teachers shows 0.813. The data of this research was analyzed descriptively by using SPSS version 15.0. Research findings showed the use of Internet among teachers are moderate (mean = 3.58), the purpose of information searching of Internet are more towards teaching and learning (mean = 4.01) rather than for personal use ( mean = 2.8), for access current information (mean = 3.05) and for entertainment (mean = 1.74). The mean for problems faced by teachers in using Internet are high for technical problems (mean = 3.99), Internet facilities (mean = 3.91) and Internet expertise (mean = 4.11). This findings also showed that the factors of teaching experience and subject option doesn’t influence information searching habits of Internet among teachers. However, the attitude factor (p = 0.000, r = 0.598, 8 = 0.01) had significantly influence the information searching habits among teachers.
