Abstract

Green IT has been widely discussed in both technical and administrative areas. A major gap that exists in the Green IT literature today is the absence of a theoretical framework. Such framework can be used to assist organisations in assessing their capability to undertake Green IT to support the firm's competitive advantage. This study attempts to bridge this gap by developing and proposing an integrative framework which focuses on IS resources and capabilities as the antecedent for higher order Green IT capability. In this study, we propose a framework grounded in the resource-based view of the firm, which integrates Green IT and the competitive advantage literature. The conceptual framework depicts the major determinants and consequences of Green IT capability. This study will explore whether publicly listed companies in Malaysia can benefit from this integrative framework. We believe that by using our research model, firm managements could identify their organisations' strengths from available resources in order to develop higher order Green IT capability.
