Abstract
This study is about the relationship between power and aesthetic culture in an Indonesian context. The purpose is to investigate the nature of power in relation to public aesthetics while the focus of this study is to disclose and dismantle the ideas and interests behind the politics of development on architecture and urban space design. The study explores the implementation of the concept of development and development in various eras of political reigns, from colonial to modern Indonesia. Besides bibliographical studies, most data and materials for this essay were based on the author’s fieldworks and work experiences in Indonesia between 1993 and 2012.
