Abstract

This paper review the definitions, models in practice and dimensions of construct of community capacity building, beginning with early definitions in the 1990s to latest along with construct dimensions. The definitions have a common principle, mostly highlight five domains areas physical, Institutional, Economic, Social and Human. While content analysis of construct models highlighted the following common dimensions of construct of CCB (1) participation (2) leadership (3) problem assessment (4) resource mobilization and (5) program management. The harmony in definitions of community capacity building construct confront the idea that term ‘community capacity building’ is laden with a surfeit of meanings and ideas. Mostly, the term is defined by different authors, relevant to context and purposes of work. Literature demonstrates many elucidation of construct of community capacity building. Like other notions such as community empowerment, community participation and sustainability, the term of ‘community capacity building ‘has various elucidation in different fields. The milieu in which community capacity building is defined and interpreted is of much importance. This review paper discusses the construct of community capacity building in context of community development, and explores construct dimensions and available definitions.
