Abstract

Data Development Analysis (DEA) is a technique in operational research that uses linear programming model to measure relative efficiency of units in an organization. This process becomes complex if each unit uses many inputs and outputs. This paper is to introduce the techniques to measure relative efficiency of these units and present an example to show how DEA can help the university's managers to set the target for inefficiency faculty or unit. This paper discusses the basic principle of DEA model, followed by an example of analysis. By using DEA model, relative efficiency of faculties can be measured easily. Target and peer units for each inefficient unit can help managers to identify the reason why a unit is inefficient. This information is very important to help manager to improve the performance of inefficient units in an organization.
