Abstract
This paper describes an overview on the implementation of CASE as a software automation and its classifications. The significance of CASE tool in the light of software development and maintenance is highlighted. The overall characteristics of each category of CASE tool and its environment are addressed. CASE is considered as an alternative application by the software developers in an attempt to increase the quality and productivity of the system development.
