Abstract

Technological advancement, globalization, and increasing shortage of skilled staff and talent workers have made it crucial for companies to implement appropriate recruitment practices to entice the best in the market. This has resulted in considerable changes to recruitment practices throughout the world to attract, retain and motivate quality people to lead, manage and serve the company in a competitive environment. In this, companies need to understand recruitment practices that would enhance employee satisfaction and improve performance. How are companies in Asia responding to these changes in recruitment practices? This study explores employees’ satisfaction with the recruitment practices of a sample of multinational companies (MNCs) that are preparing for these changes by developing strategic recruitment practices to entice the best candidates worldwide. Specifically, four MNCs in the chemical industry, which were selected based on equity ownership, were analyzed to ascertain if different ownership has an impact on employee’ satisfaction with the recruitment practices of the company. A salient focus of the study is to assess if employees in foreign-owned MNCs are more satisfied with the recruitment practices of their companies as compared to employees in locally-owned companies. Foreign-owned MNCs being more globalized and technologically advanced are likely to have better recruitment practices and hence higher employee satisfaction in the recruitment practices of the company.
