Abstract

A few years after the early investigation on ultra wideband (UWB) wireless system, considerable research efforts have been put into the design of UWB antennas and systems for communications. The UWB technology brings the convenience and mobility of wireless communications with higher data rates. Designed for short range, wireless personal area networks (WPANs), UWB is the leading technology for freeing people from wires, enabling wireless connection of multiple devices for transmission of video, audio and other high bandwidth data. UWB short-range radio technology complements other longer-range radio technologies such as WiFi, WiMAX , and cellular wide area communications. Freescale Semiconductorwas the first company to produce UWB chips in the world (L. Jianxin, 2006). Its XS110 solution has been commercializes to the market. It provides full wireless connectivity delivering more than 110Mbps data transfer at very low levels of power consumption.
