Abstract

Free space optics (FSO) is a potential solution for high bandwidth demand in temperate countries, like Malaysia and shows a great choice for last-mile problem where implementation of fiber optic cables is very limited due to deployment time and cost constraint. The control of these phenomena will allow to evaluate the system performance and then to improve their reliability. The aim of this paper is to compare the behavior of an FSO link located in FKE Faculty, UTM, Skudai, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with the following parameters: distance of 350 m long, 10 Mbps data rate, low power laser, 850 nm wavelengths with Vantage Pro2 weather device to obtain the weather parameters. 10 Mbps Ethernet link between two personal computers situated 350 m apart has been successfully tested
