Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine faculty policy as a guideline in franchising a university course to private colleges applying to do so. This was achieved by investigating the capacity of the universitys' teaching workforce to assess the final examination scripts in franchised academic programs conducted in collaboration centers, in additon to the present prime teaching load supported by each of the teaching staff. Projections for assessment of examination scripts were drafted based on the official statistics provided by the Joint Academic Programs Unit of the university. The statistics which tabled out students’ registration for all subjects offered presently, together with estimates of expected student enrolment in collaboration centers applying, were taken as an indication about the number of examination scripts to be marked by the university lecturers. The expected number of students combined with the present enrolment, and the number of subjects showing students’ presence, were studied and manipulated to produce a final prediction of the assessment load. In conclusion, the assessment load for franchised examinations was found to be excessively high. This report suggests that student intake in future need to be restricted temporarily until after graduation of present students. A guideline is produced, using a few exemplary present collaboration centers as a benchmark in awarding franchiseship to applying private colleges.
