Abstract

This research covered landscape that are in relation to the Malay culture, focusing on type, design and the functionality of garden furniture. Each of these garden furnitures consist its own values, that simbolyses the Malay culture. Malay landscape is a complex design. It comprises of belief, thought and culture that related to Malay way of life. This is the foundation of Malay cosmology. In term of cosmology, the research is beyond the environmental study, and is based on three main elements that is god, nature and man. This philosophy made the culture and the traditional semiotic entirely into Malay civilised nation. This research has been conducted through several visits to the `Malay Kampung Houses' in Peninsular Malaysia. The collected data of Malay landscape furnitures were divided into several categories according to their locations and functions. Some interesting points have been determined from this research for the guidelines of Malay landscape design.
