The objective of this research is to first, identify and classify the types of errors that the Arabic-speaking learners of English language produced in their L2 writing. Secondly, this paper tries to find out which types of errors made by the learners are because of their L1. On top of that, the researcher would like to investigate the similarities and the differences of errors made by the students from each level of intensive English Course (IEC) programs. The respondents of this study are ten students who are involved with IEC programs. Five students are from low-intermediate level and the remaining ones are from intermediate level. The students were asked to produce essays of two topics; (a) What are your future plans? (b) An unforgettable event when I was in primary school. The respondents? essays were analyzed using checklists to find out patterns of errors produced. The structures of sentences in L2 that contain errors produced by the learners were then compared to the structure of their L1. This was to explore which types of errors are influenced by their mother tongue. Last but not least, the similarities and the differences of errors from each level of IEC programs were identified. Referring to the findings and discussions on this research, it could be concluded that the respondents of this research produced errors in every language categories highlighted in the checklist. Additionally, there were a number of language errors being produced by the respondents because of their L1 interference, including articles, missing words, wrong words, capitalization and prepositions. At the same time, several similarities as well as differences of the errors produced by both groups of respondents were also discussed in this particular research.
