Abstract

The objectiveof this study is two fold.Onone hand, to introd uce dn Malaysia) the Christiansen's model for evaporation and potent ial evapotranspiration (Phi) that provided exceptionally good results inCentral America.On the other hand, the above mentioned model is compared with Penman's model and pan evaporation values.The monthly pan evaporation and PET,andthatestimated via PenmnnandChristiansen models are plotted.The correlationcoefficient, the root mean square error (RMSE), mean bias error (MBE) and r-statisnc test (t) are performed toevaluate andcompare the estimation models.Climcucdata (pan evaporation}ofKuala Lumpur andKota Bahru for the year 1998 and 1999 indicate that both Christiansen and Penmanmodels provide reasonable resu lts of evaporation and PET. llowever, in this study the Penman model presents bettcr results in estimatingthc cvnporafion and PET. Inconclusion, within the Malaysian context, the Penman model shows bener performunce thanthe Christiansen model
