Abstract
Volume-based network intrusion attacks can cause serious performance degradation of network traffic due to longer queuing delay and higher packet loss rate at congested router. It has become one of the biggest challenges in network security. A quantitative estimate of worldwide computer attack incidents shows 25% of the attacks are volume-based attacks such as Denialof- Service [1]. Many detection methods have been proposed and developed to countermeasure the threats. The statistical-based method is one of detection methods has been applied. It has been reported as one of the most effective detection methods compared to the detection that presupposes the existence of attack signatures. The signature-based detection method is failed to detect this type of attacks because such attacks does not modify or add new information to the network packets.
