Abstract

The commercialisation of technologies within universities is increasingly important to generate university income and create of new businesses as well as jobs. Despite the importance of commercialisation to universities as well as to local economic development, there is little systematic understanding of institutional practices in the commercialisation process of university technologies. The ways in which universities can get involved in the decision making and the criteria for the commercialisation process has not been studied intensively. In order to increase the effectiveness of the commercialisation process it is important to understand who are involved in the decision making and the criteria used, to transform the ideas from the laboratory into commercially viable products.
